Q & A with Kim

Q.        What inspired you to write this book?

A.        I wanted to show how women can get stuck in their thorns: a mistake, real or perceived, and miss out on all the beauty and magnificence that that surrounds them every day.

Q.        What was the hardest part about writing a book?

A.        Overcoming the idea of “Who am I that I should write a book”.

Q.        How did you overcome that?

A.        I had this nagging feeling that there was some other woman out their who needed to understand things that maybe only I could get across. So, I was compelled to write it. It wouldn’t let me go.

Q.        Growing up who was your most inspirational writer?

A.        Lois Duncan: She wrote spooky suspense stories about young women that mainly took place in my home state of New Mexico. Kind of a female Edger Allen Poe for the twentieth century.

Q.        When did you know that you could actually write a book?

A.        When I was finished. I dreamed of it as a child. I had made several attempts in the past twenty years but working got in the way. In 2017 I decided to sell our business and retire at 50 so I could write full time. By 2022 I did it!

Q.        What is your next book?

A.        Get your Bearings will be my next book. It will hopefully be my only non-fiction book. It is for those who found inspiration in Between Thorns and Glory and now want a way to change their life into what they believe they are meant to be. I also have another novel started about a penny that brings miracles to those who find it and two children’s books that I have written and I just have to do the illustrations for.

Q.        What advice do you have for someone who is thinking about writing a book?

A.        Lay out a schedule to write every day. Stay to that schedule and it will happen. Don’t listen to the negative voices. Keep your ears open to the voices of your characters instead. Have the time of your life!

Q.        What type of writer are you true to your heart?

A.        Definitely an inspirational fantasy fiction writer. That is where I have the most fun.

Q.        When you wrote this book what was your main goal?

A.        I wanted to show those whose eyes were clouded with horrors of the past that they can find the way to see all the colors of life and find true joy, peace and freedom.

Q.        When someone reads your book, what do you want them to walk away with?

A.        Peace, Freedom and Joy.

Q.        What do you think about the writing community today?

A.        It is more exciting and open than it has been ever before. The sky is the limit.
