Every American needs to experience their own country at the grass roots level. Everywhere in this wonderful nation are Americans are friendly and welcoming. We had a wonderful day and a half at Natural falls and it was time to move on. Next stop Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Lots of fun could be had in Tulsa. We had planned to do some site seeing but since we only live three hours away, we decided to stick to the essential shopping and focus on the big picture: Glacier and Yellowstone. I still needed hiking socks and David still had concerns about Trixie’s squeaky front end.
We were in Tulsa in about an hour. We stopped at a tire and brake shop to have Trixie checked out. They gave her a clean bill of health and refused to charge us. The grease had worked. So, we decided that we needed more grease for the road. We pulled into an O’Reily’s. Right behind it was a store called Sun and Ski Sports. David suggested that we look in there for my socks.
Bingo! They had youth size Darn Tough socks. I bought four pair. I bought all they had except one pair. I left one in the store for the next desperate hiker. Then we went to REI. As it turns out it was a corporate headquarters not a store at all. It was so lucky that we had found the Sun and Ski store.
A quick stop at a grocery and we headed out of town to our next campsite, Keystone State Park. Located just 17 miles west of Tulsa. Keystone is a popular get away for the city folks. It had a large lake with a marina with a restaurant. We never found out why they have a racoon ranger but he was cute.
Even though we have a shower inside our camper van we often use campground resources when available. The facilities were newly built. The faucets were some kind of new efficiency knobs. The camp host saw us consult each other in confusion and came over and offered useful advice on the workings of the plumbing. The knobs required a forceful push and then they worked flawlessly.
The campground was right on the lake. This spot was all about boating. We did have a visit from a very green caterpillar.
We had a restful and uneventful night at Keystone State Park. This would be our last night in Oklahoma for nearly two months.
