Yep Kansas is flat.

All refreshed and rested we headed north from Cheney State Park through Kansas. It was scenic in a very flat farmland and prairie kind of way. The roads were nice. I worked on my novel on the way.

We passed a lovely small town called Lyons Kansas. It had a beautiful court house in the town square.

We made a left here and headed to Great Bend. Stopping there at the Dodge dealership we picked up an extra FOB for our Camper Van. While we were in the waiting room some of the locals recommended that we go to a nearby landmark, the Worlds Largest Ball of Twine located just north of Great Bend in Cawker.

This huge ball of twine was quite the attraction at one time. A painted yellow line leads from the twine to the downtown area of Cawker, Kansas.

Cawker is now one of the many modern American Ghost Towns. Every single building is closed down. A few others came to see the ball of twine while we were there, however whoever used to run this town are not gone like so many small towns across the country.

We camped just three miles from the ball of Twine at a lovely are called Glen Elder Resevoir.

It was extremely windy when we pulled into Glen Elder Campground.

The wind was so strong that Glen Elder Reservoir was white capping. We gathered that this was normal because each campsite was equipt with chains connected to the cement slab. Luckily we did not need it.

Since we were only here for the night we opted for a bike ride to cover more ground.

We kept seeing the stone pillars about three feet high. we did not know what there were for but they seemed to line yards and farms alike. Here we finally discovered that they were used as fence posts in the days before the metal ones.

No trees seemed to grow in this area so they used stone for fence posts.
