We headed west from Glen Elder State Park in Kansas to Prairie Dog State Park. I love Prairie Dogs. They are so cute. When I was a little girl we lived in a small West Texas Town. My mom frequently took me to the park where there was a Prairie Dog Town. I watched them for hours. They were tame and were used to people so we were able to watch them interact and play. When I saw the Prairie Dog State Park on our way I had to stop.

These Prairie Dogs were wild and either were not used to humans or had been abused by us. The were all out doing their prairie dog thing until we got out of the camper van. Then they all ran into their holes except for the one who must have been in charge. He sat there and chirped an alarm the whole time we were there.

Check him out.

After we watched the Prairie Dog do their Prairie Dog thing we walked up the road a piece to the Nature Trail Head. It was about a three mile walk from where we left the camper van. The Nature trail had a wonderful assortment of trees all labeled. It seemed to me that the rangers wanted kids to know about trees in an area where few of them grew.

We saw some trees there that I had not seen before with some beautiful and unusual leaves. For the most part the park was prairie. A lovely Reservoir decorated the distance with gleaming water.

We saw a decorative berry plant in full berriness.

Yes it was very windy in Kansas.
