Ag Day at the Eagle Rock Public Libray

How do you get future farmers to the library? Bring the latest tractors!

As in most small towns like the one I grew up in and where I live now Ag is big. Y’all city folks would not realize that Ag (Agriculture) is the education behind FFA (Future Farmers of America). FFA is an important organization within each rural high school.

Our beloved Eagle Rock Library put on a fun Ag event this past Saturday not just for High Schoolers but all ages.

Bryant’s Farm displayed some impressive tractors along with big machines from the Virginia Department of Transportation and a fire engine too displayed by our local volunteer fire department.

Activities for the kids abounded like rabbits and goats to pet and even chess for the more cerebral interests.

The adults enjoyed Bingo and visiting with all our neighbors and friends.

300 people attended! In this small community, that someone from every family for miles around!

The Friends of the Library sold hot dogs with the proceeds going to various projects at the library.

Triva, Daniel, and Amy serving Hot dogs and all the fixing to benefit the Library.

I helped at the hot dog station along with our Captain Amy, Daniel, Triva and Beth Raps, the President of the Friends of the Library.

Everyone was in high spirits and having fun. It is wonderful to have a community come together to celebrate their common interests – the love of the land, the kids and our library.

Our Botetourt (pronounced Botutot) County Eagle Rock Library staff all turned out to make it a success: the director Julie, the Eagle Rock Library manager Jennifer, librarians Heather and Paris.

I was amazed at how many people came out on a warm September Saturday in a rural community to the library. This shows their commitment to education and to one another.

I look forward to seeing what all these bright young students do in life. Some will be farmers and others will be lawyers, doctors, scientist, writers, influences or anything they can dream of. All will be good neighbors and excellent citizens.

Thank you Eagle Rock for making this event a joy!
