We had a lovely small hike at Prairie Dog State Park in Kansas then headed north to Nebraska. We happened upon a lovely small town named Gothenburg, Nebraska. We saw a sign for a pony express museum. Naturally we had to stop and check it out.
As soon as we got out of the camper van a friendly citizen of the town said, Welcome! He was mowing his perfect lawn directly across the street from the museum and park. Clearly he took pride in his town. It was worth taking pride in because he and all the citizens were friendly and dutiful in the upkeep of their town. If all towns in America could be like that one all our problems would be solved.
The lady manning the museum was informative and interesting.
The museum consisted of a couple of very old log buildings that were hewn by hand.
It is truly amazing to realize that mail used to go by a guy running on horse back through hostile territory. Those guys had to be truly fierce and fearless.
