The heart holds our peace.
Our gut our love.
Our head our joy.
Our legs our freedom.
Where do our opinions originate? In the heart or head, gut, legs?
Obviously thinking takes place in the head. Somewhere in the early part of the millennium the language of opinion changed from “I think” to “I feel that”. This shift takes our opinions from our head where we can use rationale and reason to sort facts and form opinions. When we form a feeling it does not need any facts. It comes from the heart. Our heart is where we keep our peace. If others do not accept our opinion that comes from the heart we will feel hurt. If others do not accept our opinion and it comes from the head we use reason and logic to see their point of view. We can then change our opinion or used logic and reasoning to form an intellectual discussion to attempt to change their opinion. If no one changes their opinion then you both order dessert and talk about the playoff game. No one gets mad. No one gets offended. No one loses friends or family members over opinions. Because the opinions came from the mind, the head, thinking. Both parties believe that that it just each others opinion. It is not life or death. Unless it is life or death everyone enjoys dessert. Remember this from the old days back in the 1980s and 1990s?
If the opinions are formed in the heart that person gets their feelings hurt because the other person doesn’t agree. If the other person is opining from the mind the heart felt opinion person appears emotional at least and foolish at most.
If this was not bad enough the media came out with the “opinion” article somewhere in the 2010s. These “opinion” articles state the opinions as fact. No longer do they preface with I think or I feel. Both have become discredited ways of speaking and are out of fashion. They are presented as truth.
Have you ever had a gut feeling? Of course. Everyone has. The gut is where we know esoteric things like love and truth. It is where we know there is a god. It is where we know God. It is the purest of all our feelings. We will make life and death decisions based on our gut, not our mind and not our heart but our gut.
Modern politics have moved the opinionated discussion from the mind to the heart and now to the gut. If we form opinions based on our gut what is wrong with that? It must be true right? Exactly. That is the problem. Opinions by definition are not facts. Therefore can not be true or false. The are opinion based on the individual’s points of view. These points of view are formed by our station in life: economic status, culture (cowboy, city, surfer, biker), business, non profit, union, teacher, immigrant, ethnicity or religion, race or mixture of races, compassionate, cynic. Well, you get the idea. Each person has their own experiences and their own point of view and therefore their own opinion.
Our education system has skewed understanding away from facts. Many people no longer believe in truth at all. If we keep our opinions coming from our place of truth then no one will remember that 2+2=4 in the future. Some things are just true. Things like gravity. We don’t float off in to space. I’m in favor of limiting truth to a very small number of things.
Let us all take our opinions out of our gut and let the things that belong there room to thrive such as love and pure truth, our belief if God. Let’s take our opinions out of our heart and let what belongs there thrive such as peace. Let’s all put our opinions back in our mind where they can thrive with thinking and analyzing. Only in the mind can we think of solutions and collaborate with others to suitable conclusions.
But, hey, this is just my opinion:)
